Thorough Eye Exams

are just the beginning...

Comprehensive eye exams for adults and children, co-management of laser vision correction surgery, caring for eye emergencies, and so much more. The optometrist in our practice provides comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages, including treatment for conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, dry eye, cataracts, and macular degeneration.

Clinical services we provide:

Comprehensive

Eye Exams

A thorough eye exam is the foundation of lifelong eye health. Using the latest diagnostic technology, including OCT angiography and virtual reality visual field testing, Dr. Martin evaluates both your vision and the overall health of your eyes in a single, unhurried appointment.

Pediatric Eye Exams

Early detection is critical to a child's vision development and academic success. Dr. Martin provides thorough eye exams for children of all ages, identifying and addressing issues before they affect learning and quality of life.

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is a progressive condition that can lead to vision loss over time. Using advanced OCT angiography and genetic testing, Dr. Martin can detect subtle changes in the retina early, allowing for timely intervention and better preservation of your vision.

Dry Eye

Leading-edge dry eye care, unique to the Verde Valley. Using radiofrequency and intense pulsed light therapies, Dr. Martin treats the underlying cause of dry eye disease rather than just the symptoms, providing meaningful long-term relief.

What Makes Eye Boutique of Sedona'S Clinical CARE Unique?

A Singular Provider with Exceptional Depth of Training

Eye Boutique of Sedona is a single-provider practice led by Carolyn J. Martin, OD, MS, FAAO. This structure allows for continuity of care, consistency in clinical standards, and a deeply personalized patient experience.

Dr. Martin completed a hospital-based residency in ocular disease at the Albuquerque VA Hospital, a level of training that is unique within the Verde Valley. This background provides extensive experience in diagnosing, managing, and monitoring complex medical eye conditions.

Over a career spanning more than 30 years, Dr. Martin has worked in nearly every mode of optometric practice available. That breadth of experience directly informed the creation of Eye Boutique of Sedona. The clinic is intentionally designed to incorporate the best aspects of each practice model—efficiency, thoroughness, refractive excellence, and high-level non-surgical medical eye care—while eliminating their limitations.

An Experienced, Highly Certified Clinical Team

Dr. Martin has worked alongside certified ophthalmic technician Jennifer McIver for 15 years. Dr. Martin personally trained Ms. McIver, who has since achieved multiple advanced certifications, including:

  • Board-Certified Ophthalmic Technician
  • Certified Contact Lens Technician
  • Board-Certified Optician

This long-standing partnership ensures seamless exams, excellent communication, and a level of clinical support that enhances both efficiency and patient comfort.

Intentional Investment

in Advanced Diagnostic Technology

When Eye Boutique of Sedona opened in March of 2014, the practice was built with a clear philosophy: invest in the best diagnostic equipment available and continually upgrade as technology evolves.

At the same time, the clinic maintains a thoughtful respect for proven, traditional methods. For example, refractions are performed using both a classic manual phoropter and a digital phoropter. This dual approach allows for greater human control and clinical judgment when needed, ensuring the most accurate and personalized prescriptions.

Innovations Unique

to the Verde Valley AREA

Eye Boutique of Sedona continues to lead the region in advanced diagnostics.

Recent upgrades include:

Virtual Reality Visual Field Testing

The practice has replaced standard visual field testing with a virtual reality–based system. This allows patients to sit comfortably while the test adapts to their individual response speed. This technology improves reliability and patient experience and is unique within the Verde Valley.

OCT Angiography

The clinic has also recently acquired OCT angiography, another technology unique to the Verde Valley. This imaging allows for exceptionally detailed visualization of the optic nerve and retina, including blood flow through the multiple layers of the eye—without the need for injectable dyes.

OCT angiography represents a significant advancement in the monitoring of conditions such as macular degeneration and optic nerve disease. Emerging research as recent as December 2025 suggests that subtle changes in vascular patterns around the optic nerve may be detectable up to 18 months before measurable damage occurs. This early insight has the potential to allow earlier intervention and better preservation of vision.

Time, Communication, and Patient-First Care

Following the COVID pandemic, Eye Boutique of Sedona made a deliberate decision to stop participating in vision insurance plans. This was not simply a financial choice—it was a clinical one.

Stepping away from vision insurance removed the pressure to see a high volume of patients each day. This decision allows Dr. Martin to spend as much time as needed during each visit to fully address patient concerns, answer questions, and develop thoughtful care plans—often within a single appointment.

The practice places a strong emphasis on communication and collaboration. Patients are viewed as active members of the care team, working together with the doctor and technician to determine the best course of action, whether that involves ongoing management or referral to another specialist.

Above all, clinical decisions at Eye Boutique of Sedona are guided by what is in the patient’s best interest—without compromise due to scheduling pressure or insurance constraints.
